City Design Ltd 

City Design is a long-established engineering, planning, architecture and landscape design operation that originally developed as an in-house service to the Auckland City Council.

In 2000, having been through a period of competing with other consultancies for both Auckland City work and other contracts, City Design was being restructured as a Local Authority Trading Enterprise and, therefore, required new branding without reference to the Auckland City Council.

Vision: City Design is a vibrant, market-leading consultancy recognised for the excellence of our service and our talented people who provide sharper, more innovative services.

Mission: To grow the value, good reputation and regional contribution of City Design, and to become the principal player in our chosen markets.

Intended project outcome: An increased visibility, awareness, understanding and valuing of the services offered by City Design leading to more clients and projects.

Design task: A strong brand, aligning and motivating staff and generating a positive response from the target market.

Creationz Consultants was one of three design firms invited to participate in a professional, competitive process up to concept stage. The Creationz analysis of the needs and the proposed solution was successful.

The design ensured that the strong verbal identity was complemented by a visual device, suggesting a built environment in a harbour context with a rich cultural heritage.

By being evocative rather than literal, all the professional disciplines felt included and integrated.

There was a smooth introduction of the new brand, both internally and externally.

Its ability to work on a white or black background, and to be reproduced as signage, vehicle livery, offset and digital printing, and electronically ensured consistent presentation.

The organisation has now been acquired by the global GHD organisation, an integrated network of over 2,900 personnel and over 60 offices in Australia, the Middle East, Asia, New Zealand and the Americas.
