Merlin Product Design and Brand Development
Product Design:
From the success of the original hand held 1996 remote, pHd3 was asked to develop a 'key ring' remote, capable of operating 2 or 4 systems. The 'key ring' remote was to utilise surface mounted electronics, be water resistant and comfortable to hold and operate.
Brand Development:
pHd3 convinced Merlin that there was a significant disconnect between the product design we had undertaken, and the overall Merlin brand. We set about developing a brand that would fit with the remote control units, and better communicate Merlin's values and brand promise. The brand needed to work across a variety of applications as well as compete in both the domestic and international markets. The remote controller is an obvious symbol for Merlin. The resulting mark is a simple expression of a 'finger on the button'. Simple contemporary typography and layout has been used throughout to fit with the theme of easy functionality
