Sanders Exhibition Design

The Navy Museum approached Scenario to design a temporary exhibition to commemorate the achievements of Lieutenant Commander William Sanders, the only New Zealander to receive the Naval Victoria Cross.

Sanders' captained highly secret ships code-named 'Q-ships' that were disguised to look like civilian vessels but contained hidden guns. These ships would lure WW1 U-boats to the surface to attack them with a deck gun but when in range the Q-ships would drop their hatches, hoist the White Ensign and open fire.

We told Sanders' story as a Boy's Own adventure comic and brought to life the action that had earned him the VC. We designed interactive touch-screen photo albums and an illuminated display case to house key artifacts.

The comic strip was also reproduced as part of an education kit visiting school children could colour in and fill in the text to test their memory of the exhibition.
