Case study overview

Starena International Pty Ltd

Starena International found opportunities in European, Asian and American markets for stadium seating, superior in comfort, aesthetics and cost.

Tasmanstudios was contracted to take existing ergonomic data and develop two stadium seating solutions to compete against the best in the world.

Sports stadiums today are being used for more than just sport and consumers expect a greater level of comfort and style, especially when paying high prices for high calibre events.

Comfort extends to more than just sitting; some events create a lot of crowd activity and seating needs to accommodate for the movement of the spectator.

A new seat is needed that moves stadium seating into the 21st century, and brings the comfort and style of Italian cafes to the world of stadium events. This new seat also needs to provide a profitable business solution and respect our environment.

The Eclipse and Unity seating solution creates a new seating experience for the spectator. With no straight lines, the feminine form of the seat flexes with the occupier while they follow the event, offering continued support and comfort.

The flowing hole-pattern allows for ventilation, providing a drier seating experience for long summer events. These holes also create easier cleaning and faster drying time.

Efficient design has reduced the amount of plastic used; on average 30 percent less than competitor's products. The integration of the hole pattern also speeds up the molding-cycle time in production through faster cooling times, while also saving on production costs.

The Unity has been fitted into several new Olympic stadiums in Athens and the Eclipse has been requested for the retro fit outs of stadia in the USA. Other projects are in progress in Vietnam, South America and China.

The reduction in the amount of plastic used for each seat results in an overall reduction of hundreds of tonnes of plastic for each stadium; a competitive advantage to the producer and an easement to the environment.

The seats are one piece and are made from commonly recyclable material.
