Case study overview
The Anima Chair
The Anima Chair, from the Anima range, is a design/art object and a statement for contemporary indoor/outdoor residential spaces.
It has an inspiring and provocative organic/asymmetric shape with a strong retro look that integrates well with current trends. The fibreglass body and gelcoat paint ensure excellent resistance to weather conditions and UV damage.
To create a design/art object for contemporary indoor/outdoor residential spaces, using technologies and materials adapted to New Zealand conditions and lifestyles.
The product is cast out of fibreglass and painted in gel coats in contemporary colours that allow a perfect integration with any up-to-date colour scheme.
Artistic interventions transform Anima chairs into truly spatial art objects that carry uniqueness and personality.
The finish is excellent every time, as well as being highly resistant to scratches, breakages, UV fading, dating and saltwater.
In July 2003, I started a programme that aims to apply layers of artistic intervention to the Anima Chair to ensure uniqueness and personality.
'Painted Chair 1, 2 and 3', 'Hollywood Chair' and 'Dressed Chair' became an invitation for the viewer to relate with the object at a perceptual/emotional level, not only a physical one.
In these cases, the chair becomes an object for contemplation, dialog and interpretation as its functionality is altered or enhanced.
Their presence is a response to the subtle and sophisticated questions one can ask when living a contemporary lifestyle.
